The first introduction to decoding words and stories for kindergarten students comes from interpreting the visual narrative in story books thereby picture books are especially helpful as illustrations play a vital part in storytelling as through images students can narrate stories with ease. Illustrations in a book are often a child’s first brush with literature and the significance of getting to see their own created story books is highly enjoyed by them.
It helps them to think creatively, develop eye-hand coordination, hone analytic skills and thereby increase their confidence.
On 15h September 2023, students of K1 created their own illustrated storybook called Swimmy by Leo Lionni which brought a lot of excitement and enthusiasm among the students. It helped them to think creatively, develop eye-hand coordination, hone analytic skills, and thereby increase their confidence once the book was created for them.
The students were ecstatic about doing the above and it helped them to narrate the story by using the book created by them.
